Fiat X1/9
It's been *** years and $$$ days since we got the "Baby Ferrari"
"The sports car for the masses, in it's natural habitat."
About the Fiat X1/9
-
The X1/9 was developed from the 1969 Autobianchi A112 Runabout
concept, with styling by Bertone under chief designer Marcello
Gandini.
-
It got both it's SOHC engine and transmission from the Fiat 128.
-
Debuted in late November 1972 after the Turin Motor Show to avoid
upstaging the new Fiat 126 city car.
-
Although it got it's engine from the 128 there were some changes: It
got a new cast aluminium oil sump,a twin-choke Weber 32 DMTR
carburettor, and an 8.9:1 compression ratio.
-
The engine produced 75 DIN-rated metric horsepower (55 kW; 74 hp) at
6,000 rpm and 97 DIN-rated newton-metres (72 lbâ‹…ft) of torque at
3,400 rpm.
-
Suspension was fully independent, with MacPherson struts front and
rear.
-
All X1/9's are targa top sports cars with storage for the roof under
the bonnet.
-
The Fiat X1/9 had a mid-engined layout with the engine,
transmission, fuel tank, and spare tire all residing between the
passenger seats and rear axle.
